it opened up my heart and mind in such positive ways. I couldn't thank her enough for writing it. At the time it felt like it was addressed to me personally. It simply hit home.
One chapter in particular she is talking about how she became a young mother, and simply felt proud of herself after she brought him into this world. She had done something that gave her self gratification with the love and support of those around her.
I was so inspired by this, because you hear so many things that are negative in regards to those starting a family. "kids hold you back, take all your money etc..." It's heartbreaking for me to hear these things, because it is far from true. We are women who are strong, driven and loving. Those are great qualities to choose which paths to take in life with your child by your side, not holding you back. I will still do great things even as I bring a new life into this world in hopes that it encourages my daughter to do the same.
Maya doesn't have any daughters of her own, but she takes all of us in as though we are hers in this book. If you get the chance to read it, I highly recommend it.
“The human heart...tells us that we are more alike than we are unalike.”
